ASA - We built it. We listened. We changed it. It's better than ever!

ASA International has been live for a few months now.
When we started, we had a rough idea of what artists might want from it. A place to be found. A place to find each other. Some useful things to read and watch. A few of those guesses were right. Others weren't, and the only way to know was to put it out there and see what people actually did want.
You've told us; What you used, what confused you, what you came looking for and what couldn't find. So some things have changed, a couple of things have gone and theres two new services.

Still the centre of everything. If you work in the arts, you can have a free profile here, so that people looking for collaborators can find you. If you haven't added yourself yet, it takes a few minutes.

The work doesn't only depend on the people on stage or in front of the camera. This is where you'll find the people and organisations who help artists get the work made.

The thing we were asked for most.
Anyone who has spent time in casting WhatsApp groups knows how it goes. A notice gets forwarded from group to group, details drop off along the way, and by the time it reaches the actor it was meant for, the deadline has passed.
The Casting Room keeps casting calls in one place. Whoever is casting can post the roles, the dates, whether it's paid and how to apply. Actors can search by country and by type of work: theatre, film, TV, web series, commercials and voice. Once the deadline passes, the call comes down by itself, so everything you see there is still open.

A free library of videos, documents and links, gathered because they're of real use to working artists. We add to it whenever we find something worth passing on.
Writers can now upload their original scripts here too. If you've written a play, a monologue or a screenplay and you'd like it read, put it where actors, directors and companies will come across it. It stays your work. You're just making it easier to find.

This came straight from you. Many of you wanted a simple way to tell other artists about a show, a festival, a workshop or an exhibition, without paying for an ad and without having to remember to take it down afterwards.
Fill in a short form, confirm by email, and your event is up. When it ends, it removes itself. Register and forget. No updating, no deleting, no remembering to take it down. Each listing has a Copy link button, so you can send it to whoever you like.

The Global Network and the Noticeboard have gone. Both were early ideas, and both ended up doing jobs that other parts of ASA now do better. Auditions and opportunities that used to go on the Noticeboard belong in the Casting Room now.
All of it is free, and it will stay that way. You don't pay to list anything, and you don't pay to look. ASA stands for Artists Supporting Artists. That's the point of it, and it only works if it's open to anyone, wherever they are and wherever they're at in their working life.
Two months isn't long. Some of what we've built will hold up and some of it won't, and we'll only find out because you tell us. If something doesn't work, or isn't there, let us know. That's how these changes came about, and it's how the next ones will.
We also post new artists and new events on Instagram as they come in. If you'd like to see who's joined and what's on without having to check the site, follow us there. And if you're in the directory or you've listed an event, keep an eye out. You might find yourself on it.
